President Duterte amends a proclamation to declare August as "ASEAN Month" in the Philippines, aiming to promote awareness and support for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) among the Filipino people.

The main purpose is to amend Proclamation No. 1008 (s. 1997) to declare the entire month of August of every year as "ASEAN Month" in the Philippines.

ASEAN was founded on 08 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand.

To promote economic, social, and cultural development of the region through cooperative programs; to safeguard political and economic stability; and to serve as a forum for resolving intra-regional differences.

The Philippines is a founding and active member of ASEAN.

It declared 07 August to 13 August of every year as "ASEAN Week." 

All government agencies, especially the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, and the Commission on Higher Education.

August is declared as ASEAN Month to raise public awareness and support for ASEAN's importance in regional peace and sustainable development.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the proclamation.

It called all public officials and employees to actively take part in raising public awareness of ASEAN.

To instill the importance, value, and meaning of ASEAN in achieving and maintaining regional peace and sustainable development.
