The Department of Industry serves as the primary policy, planning, programming, coordinating, implementing, and administrative entity of the executive branch for the development, expansion, and diversification of industry.
The authority and responsibility are vested in the Secretary of Industry.
The Secretary of Industry is assisted by two Undersecretaries.
An Undersecretary designated by the President shall temporarily perform the functions of the Secretary of Industry.
The Commission aims to promote, assist, and develop medium and small-scale industries; conduct studies, surveys, research, and technical assistance programs; and coordinate and integrate policies and programs for technical, financial, marketing, purchasing, and promotional assistance to medium and small-scale industries.
The involved agencies include the Department of Local Government and Community Development, Department of Trade, U.P. Institute of Small-Scale Industries, Development Academy of the Philippines, National Manpower and Youth Council, Central Bank of the Philippines, Development Bank of the Philippines, NEDA/CB Industries Guarantee Loan Fund, National Science Development Board, Food Terminal, Inc., and Design Center Philippines.
Each agency nominates one representative to the Commission for purposes of coordination, consultation, and liaison.
The Commission replaces the National Council for Medium and Small-Scale Industries.
One of the Undersecretaries of the Department heads the Commission.
The Decree took effect immediately upon signing on August 19, 1975.
