Section 1659 of the Revised Administrative Code is amended by Presidential Decree No. 212.

The purpose is to allow discretion and greater flexibility in choosing a substitute for the Solicitor General instead of designating the Acting Solicitor General solely based on seniority among Assistant Solicitors General.

There are ten (10) Assistant Solicitors General.

The Solicitor General's salary is the same as that of a Justice of the Court of Appeals.

Their salary is the same as that of a Judge of the Court of First Instance.

One of the ten Assistant Solicitors General designated by the Department Head shall temporarily perform the functions.

The Acting Solicitor General was designated from among the nine Assistant Solicitors General on the sole basis of seniority.

President Ferdinand E. Marcos promulgated the decree by virtue of powers vested upon him by the Constitution as Commander-in-Chief and pursuant to Proclamation No. 1081 and General Order No. 1.

For the superior handling of litigation for the State, the efficient administration of Office functions, and in the greater interest of public service.
