Ferdinand E. Marcos amends the leadership structure of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, establishing a Director and Assistant Director to enhance the management and implementation of tropical disease control programs.

Q&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 859)

The primary purpose of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine is to provide a strong biomedical research component for various control programs for tropical diseases under the Ministry of Health.

Section 3.b. of Executive Order No. 674 is amended by Executive Order No. 859.

The Institute is headed by a Director, assisted by an Assistant Director.

The President of the Philippines has the authority to appoint both the Director and the Assistant Director.

The Director's compensation is equivalent to CESO Rank II, and the Assistant Director's compensation is equivalent to CESO Rank III.

The Director is responsible for the implementation of policies and the immediate management of the programs and operations of the Institute.

Executive Order No. 859 took effect immediately upon its issuance on December 14, 1982.

The amendment clarifies the leadership structure by defining the roles, compensation ranks, and appointment authority of the Director and Assistant Director, thereby enhancing research management and administration.
