The IDC was created to serve as a coordinating mechanism for the concerted and collective efforts of the government and private sectors to create a favorable business climate that will enhance the growth and expansion of local industries.
Executive Order No. 480 amended Executive Order No. 380 by including the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources as a member of the Industry Development Council to provide a sustainable development perspective and address environment-related concerns.
The Secretary of Trade and Industry is the Chairman of the Industry Development Council.
There are seven (7) representatives of the private sector included as members of the Industry Development Council.
The Presidents of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and the Federation of Philippine Industries, Inc. serve as Vice-Chairmen.
The Secretaries of Finance, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, Science and Technology, Labor and Employment, and Environment and Natural Resources are members of the Industry Development Council.
The Director General of the National Economic and Development Authority and the Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas are also members of the IDC.
The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources provides the sustainable development perspective in promoting competitiveness in local industries and facilitates the resolution of environment-related concerns.
Executive Order No. 480 took effect immediately upon its signing on April 27, 1998.
