The main purpose of the Sugar Workers Maternity Benefit Program is to assist female sugar workers in defraying expenses incurred at the time of delivery, abortion, or miscarriage.

A maternity benefit claim should be filed on the 7th month of pregnancy.

The claim should be filed with the DOLE Regional Office, or with any planters' association/cooperative or sugar mill through their respective accredited pre-processors having jurisdiction over the workplace or place of residence of the covered woman sugar worker.

The claim application shall be supported by: (a) Original/duly-authenticated doctor's certificate attesting to the fact of pregnancy, (b) Original/certified true copy of latest cash bonus payroll or payslip envelope, or if unavailable, a copy authenticated by the WAWD Chief, (c) Original/certified true copy of the Certificate of Employment, or a certification from the SAP officer based on the latest SAB payroll/payslip/envelope submitted to DOLE-Regional Office.

In case of abortion or miscarriage prior to the 7th month of pregnancy, the existing requirements and procedures under the Operating Guidelines for the Sugar Workers Maternity Benefit Program shall be followed.

Yes, benefits shall be made available prior to the delivery, abortion, or miscarriage subject to the guidelines set forth in this Order.

The WAWD Chief has the authority to recopied and authenticate the payroll copy to be attached to the application form.

A certification from the SAP officer may be secured to certify the claimant's employment for maternity benefit based on the latest SAB payroll/payslip/envelope submitted to the DOLE-Regional Office by the millers or planters.

The legal basis is DOLE Department Order No. 02, issued on April 12, 2000.

This Department Order took effect immediately upon issuance on April 12, 2000.
