Q&A (MTC Resolution NO. 10, S. 2009)

The resolution accredits training programs for Ship Security Officers (SSO) in accordance with Regulation VI/5 of the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended.

The amendment to Chapter VI of the 1978 STCW Convention adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee at its Eighty-First Session.

It entered into force on 01 January 2008.

MARINA, in coordination with the Office of Transport Security (OTS), accredited training providers offering courses for Ship Security Officers and Company Security Officers before this resolution.

Until 01 July 2009.

The Maritime Training Council (MTC) shall commence accreditation of SSO training programs.

Effective 30 October 2009.

No, accreditations issued before 30 October 2009 shall no longer be renewed, but providers may continue conducting training until expiration.

OTS representatives shall participate in the inspection of SSO training centers applying for MTC accreditation and in assessment of SSO applicants if they meet assessor qualifications.
