Facts:
In Lordito Arrogante, Johnston Arrogante, Arme Arrogante, and Fe D. Arrogante v. Beethoven Deliarte, the petitioners, nephews of respondent Beethoven and children of Fe, challenged his ownership of Lot No. 472-A in Poblacion Daanbantayan, Cebu. The property originally formed part of the conjugal share of their parents, Bernabe Deliarte Sr. and Gregoria Placencia, who left nine children, including Beethoven and Fe. Between 1978 and 1980, Beethoven paid for the hospitalization and burial expenses of a brother, his mother (who died July 29, 1978), and his father (who died November 7, 1980). On November 16, 1978, all siblings executed a “deed of absolute sale,” for P15,000, conveying their rights in the lot to Beethoven; Bernabe, though blind, was present and did not object. Beethoven thereafter possessed the property in his own name, and in 1986 eight siblings (excluding Fe) signed a confirmation of the 1978 sale.
